Bow hunts

The most important dynamic in bow hunting African game is that you are very familiar with and extremely proficient shooting with the bow you bring along. Buying a brand new bow just before you start you safari is not recommended.

For plains game hunting, you should bring your normal big game set up you would normally use for whitetail or any other type deer.

We do not recommend that you buy a special 80 lb. bow set up to shoot plains game. Compound, recurve, long bows as well as crossbows are all suitable as long as the hunter has practiced and is comfortable drawing it in pressure situations.

Cut-on-contact fixed blade broadheads are strongly recommended.

There is no permit required by the South African Police Service for bringing a bow into South Africa.
