General Information

PROFESSIONAL HUNTERS ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH AFRICA PHASA:

PHASA is the official mouthpiece of our professional hunting fraternity and offers a variety of services to its members and foreign visitors. For more info visit the PHASA website (www.phasa.co.za).

Main objectives include: High quality service and ethical standards amongst its members, to promote professional hunting and to liaise with both surrounding and international hunting organisations.

LEGISLATION IN SOUTH AFRICA:

In 1981, legislation was introduced to control professional hunting outfits and the hunting industry in South Africa. The object was to provide protection to the international hunters visiting South Africa. Certain legal requirements and standards have to be met prior to a license being issued to a professional hunter or outfitter. To ensure peace of mind please be sure to book with a PHASA member.

CLIMATE:
Our winter day temperatures vary from warm to cold with nights generally being cold. Winter temperatures vary from 2.9*C to 21*C to (40*F to 75*F).

VEGETATION:
Our Bushveld consists mainly of dense thickets that break up from place to place into open areas. The terrain is undulating, but not very steep.

HUNTING CLOTHING:
A few long and short sleeved shirts, long pants, sweaters, gloves and a jacket. A good pair of walking/hunting boots, sun cream and a hat. Camouflaged clothing is allowed.

TRACKING DOGS:
Our tracking dogs form an invaluable part of our family, particularly where trophy animals have been wounded. The use of dogs increases our recovery by 95% and clients do not have to suffer the loss of animals wounded and lost.

SPECIES:
With over 40 different species of game available, South Africa has more to offer than any other African country. Should you be interested in a species not listed here, please contact us directly for more information.

HUNTING SEASONS:
Shabalala Game Ranch holds an exemption permit that allows us to offer hunting year-round. However, the months, March – November are generally preferred due to more suitable climatic conditions and cooler temperatures.

Bird-hunting is season-specific and runs from May through August. An individualised permit needs to be applied for.

DURATION OF SAFARI:
Hunting days are determined by the number of animals required and difficulty of species involved. The average duration varies between 5 – 14 days, although no minimum days are required for most species.
